the funny thing about contingency days is....
So we had this big day of activity on Friday.
We officially opened the game tables in the OR lounge. to get the tools of the trade (fooseballs, or pool cues and balls, etc.) you just have to stop by the sga office (noon-4pm) or the Student Activities office (4pm-?). It doesn't cost anything to rent the stuff. But we will need to borrow your id.
We had a casual ribbon-cutting, and then gave away free pizza and soft drinks to the general student body.
We also launched the SGA helpline, and gave away magnets with the helpline number. If you still want a magnet, no worries- we still have a few hundred. But there are a limited number. Better come claim them quickly- i imagine that they will become a hot commodity. Their rarity will cause a transition in which they become more highly valued than money. This will probably blossom into an sga-helpline-magnet fueled black market. The only question: how many magnets will it cost to buy a kidney? I suspect between 7-34, based on the current standard and the expected inflation the magnets will cause in the market. But i digress...
We also wanted to hype our new and improved website and variety of online schmata, like the facebook membership, and this here blog.
So what do you think? Did it work?
Have you even read this? Hello? Am I all alone out here in cyberland?
Let me know what you think. post a comment...please. please?
Happy weekend

next year's tuition! hot news!
Fast breaking news: this happened just a couple minutes ago. Thought you guys should be the first to know
University Budget committee voted today on the decision on the recommendation they will make to Fr. Wildes concerning tuition increase. By a very close vote (12 to 11) it was decided that tuition should increase 6% for next year. This is below average for other schools of our size.
There was a long debate about this in previous meetings, wether 6% was too much of too little, The proposals ranged from 0% to 9%, with 6% narrowly being approved.
okay- i'll keep you posed on any other news.

Do the SGA 3 Step
Happy friday, all.
so what can i promise you in the coming week? let's see:
brand new website feature: 3-step procedures on the sga website, www.loyno.edu/sga. This is where you'd go to find out how to do everything sga-ish, and maybe some things not so sga-ish. Think of it as a creative spin on faq. That's frequently asked questions, for those who are confused.
But what can are tagline be? so simple a caveman could do it! Hmm...i feel like it's been done. And it's late afternoon on friday. I'm leaving
anybody got any ideas?

Mr. A-Chi-O
Happy Halloween! Welcome to the SGA hump-day update.
Monday night was the Mr. A-Chi-O (i'm too lazy to look for greek characters- sorry ladies....)Pageant. SGA had not one but two representatives in the competition: Mr. Garlan White, representing the sga senators, and Mr. Jonathan Rowan, repping e-staff.
both gentlemen perfromed their hearts out, but alas, Mr. Alpha Chi Omega was not to be for SGA this year. Congratulations anyways guys- you made us proud, and you kept it classy.
Mad props though to Mr. Brian Parks- he's with UPB and he came in second place! You know those of us who work in the basement have to stick together.
this weekend is wolves on the prowl. Join sga in pitching in and continuing rebuilding efforts in the greater new orleans area. There's even a free t-shirt involved.
everyone be safe tonight- I'm sure you'll follow the suggestions in the campus-wide email I got that said something about praying. Yes, praying. With my friends. On frenchman street.
that's all for now folks-later!

What happened at the senate meeting?
The SGA Budget passed last night at the senate meeting, including a disputed item regarding funding for a spirit band for athletic events. The spirit band will only receieve funds if they attend equal numbers of men's athletic events and women's athletic events to prevent any potential title 9 violations.
Elliot is in negotiations with Sodexho, expecting to result in some late night dining options.
Laundry Machines have reverted to the original 75 cent rate. Now, the money you save (after about 12 loads) can go toward one of those organic chocolate bars in the c-store.
Remember: If you have student issues, this is a great time to come and voice them. If you think something should change on campus, come tell the people who can effect it.
Next week: Same time (5pm) Same place (the Audubon Room).
ciao!

SGA meeting 9/10/08: what really happened
Congratulations, first and foremost to our new justices: Shawn Ali, Meg Lancaster, Joelle Brown, Robin Abbott, and Kate Rafferty.
The Budget was tabled for further review, except for the allocations portion- that passed. Allocations, in laymen terms, is the part of student fees that go to student organizations. This way, everybody's clubs can pay for stuff.
The long-awaited pool tables and other games including shuffleboard and foosball were also approved within the budget. SGA hopes to have them in the lobby of the O.R. by late October if not sooner.
I don't know how many of you are familiar with this, but Loyola students were promised late-night food on Friday and Saturday nights by distributor Sudexho. However, the past few weeks, there have been no outlets open on campus. Elliot Sanchez, (henceforth referred to as just Elliot, or El Presidente) noted that this was a breech in Sudexho's contract, and is pursuing the issue this week with universty higherups.
Meetings take place at 5pm on Tuesday in the Audubon Room. Come stop by- they're open to the public and more fun than a barrel of monkeys.
